About

The Greenhouse is a business idea I came up with back in college. I had a growing love for house plants, and this love of plants grew to a love of planters, then finally ceramics. I minored in art at Texas State University, where I took my first ever ceramics class. While studying ceramics, I realized that finding non-generic planters was difficult, so I decided that what better way to have planters that fit my style than to make them myself.

Once I was in ceramics, I was very amazed by how unique everything the students made was. Each person could have the same prompt, but every piece was completely different. It was also interesting to me how people would talk about their reasons for making their piece the way they did. This adds a story behind the work that you don’t get when buying things from big chain stores. This made me want to share my experiences with other people and give them a piece of my work.

I was also motivated by my love for plants. I wanted people to be able to come to a place that not only sold plants, but taught you how to care for them as well. Growing up, my mom would always say she couldn’t have plants because they always died. When I got into plants, I gave her one that was almost impossible to kill, knowing she had no idea about it. I told her how to care for it and answered any questions she’d have, and the plant did even better than when I owned it. Then I realized that everyone is capable of having beautiful house plants; they just need help getting there.
